Arnee Hidalgo stages Thursday shows in Thunderbird Resort this March

THURSDAY nights at Thunderbird Resort in Taytay, Rizal are going to be more entertaining and enchanting with performances by one of the most distinct and talented Filipino singers Arnee Hidalgo this coming March.

Arnee, who is Thunderbird’s artist of the month for March, is set to have a series of shows at the luxury hotel and resort every Thursday, starting March 1. The sultry singer has been known for her soulful, powerful voice and her almost impeccable performances that captivate her audience through the years.

Musical journey
Arnee started her career as a part of the singing groups Penoy and 14K—both under the tutelage of “Maestro” Ryan Cayabyab. She was also a member of the female teenage trio The Vibe in the 90s.

Her career as a solo artist skyrocketed when her smashing hit “Cold Summer Nights” was released in 2003. Her rendition of the Francis Magalona original became very popular in the local music industry that it was hailed by radio stations as Song of the Year.

She released an album titled “You Got It All” that carried her versions of the popular songs “You Got It All”, “Miss You Like Crazy”, “Inside That I Cried”, and “What Might Have Been”, among others.

OPM advocate
A staunch advocate of Original Pinoy Music (OPM), Arnee is one of the local artists who support “Tunog Natin”, a campaign that aims to revive the Filipinos’ interest for local artists and their records.

Together with rock band Tanya Markova, she recorded a fun, feel-good rendition of “Pumapatak Ang Ulan” for the TUNOG NATIN: Songs from Home Compilation Album.

Arnee is likewise a part of Mang Inasal's “Mang Aawit Music Advocacy Program” that gives Filipino singers and songwriters opportunities and resources to continue creating and performing new and original songs.

As one of the program’s music grantees, she recorded the song “Bakit Ba?” and shot a music video, featuring model-actor Victor Aliwalas. The music videos for the music advocacy program are being played in more than 400 Mang Inasal branches nationwide.

Why Avida is a staunch advocate of OPM

ORIGINAL PILIPINO MUSIC (OPM) is the soundtrack of our lives. That’s something many Filipinos easily take for granted—but just think: what better way to feel hope and inspiration than to hear “Umagang Kay Ganda” in the morning? How could we express romantic love if we didn’t have “Harana”?

Knowing that OPM is a vital part of Filipino culture and identity, Avida Land Corp. is doing its part to keep original Filipino music alive, meaningful and relevant to a new generation of Filipinos.

TUNOG NATIN OPM ARTISTS AND AVIDA EXECUTIVES show their unity in the effort to preserve and build on the legacy of Original Pilipino Music during the album launch of "Tunog Natin: Songs From Home", an all-OPM album that gives a fresh sound to OPM classics as well as original tracks.

Aside from providing families with quality, affordable homes, Avida is fully supporting OPM-related projects. Two of these projects are the “Tunog Natin!” series of all-OPM concerts and the compilation album “Tunog Natin: Songs From Home”.

“Avida is always looking for ways to help nurture Filipino culture for nation-building. And it happens that OPM is a powerful way to unite us and strengthen our national identity. This is why Avida chose to be part of the concert series and produce the OPM album,” says Tess Tatco, Avida Land Marketing Head

“While Avida is known for building quality dream homes for Filipinos, we also wish to build a strong foundation and home for OPM in the hearts and minds of Filipinos. And besides, we at Avida are big fans of OPM and we wish even more Filipinos would love it as we do,” Tatco adds.

Bridging  past and present
Avida believes that one of the best things about OPM is it allows Filipinos to reminisce about the past as well as enjoy the present. “Tunog Natin: Songs From Home”— which is composed of 10 tracks of authentic OPM music—blends a harmony of classic OPM songs and new musical creations. These songs talk about first love, first heartbreak, coming of age, and other things that everyone can relate to.

OPM likewise links history to younger listeners. Tatco says, “In the album, collaborations between artists of different music genres gave old OPM hits a unique and fresh sound; even young listeners would enjoy the songs. It’s a great way of linking the great, meaningful music of the past to the younger generation.”

An example of such collaboration is rapper Gloc-9 and jazz singer Tricia Garcia’s recording "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko", which was popularized by Sharon Cuneta and written by Rey Valera. Tricia gave the song a sweet, romantic feel, while Gloc-9 added rap verses.

LETTER DAY STORY collaborated with Pinoy Rock legend Joey "Pepe" Smith for a rocking rendition of The Dawn's signature classic "Salamat".

 A showcase of talents
Filipinos are among the best singers and musicians in the world—and their talent shines brightest when they perform OPM. This is yet another reason to love original Filipino music. For the compilation album, Avida gathered together 16 of the best Filipino musical acts from various genres. From promising young singers to OPM legends, “Tunog Natin: Song’s From Home” is a great showcase of Filipino musicianship.

Artists who took part in the album include OPM legends Joey “Pepe” Smith; Jim Paredes; Medwin Marfil of True Faith and Gloc-9; as well as pop divas Faith Cuneta and Arnee Hidalgo. OPM’s most promising young acts also joined the album, including Sheng Belmonte, Princess Velasco, Letter Day Story, boyband 1:43, Myrus, Tanya Markova;, Kiss Jane and Tricia Garcia. 1990s alternative rock icons Mcoy Fundales and Barbie Almalbis complete the line-up.

JAQ, VOCALIST OF KISS JANE, shows off her charm as well as the all-OPM album, "Tunog Natin: Songs From Home.'

“We have so many great artists and each of them contributes in cultivating OPM. We’re glad we’ve worked with local artists who are very passionate about promoting local music. The album is a celebration of the beauty of our very own brand of music,” says Tatco.

TRUE FAITH FRONTMAN Medwin  Marfil and producer-songwriter Jonathan Ong discuss the importance of OPM in creating a strong Filipino identity and in uniting the nation.

Homegrown artists were likewise featured in the “Tunog Natin!” concert series that Avida supported. Some of the noted performers that joined in the free OPM concerts were Jim Paredes, The Dawn, Noel Cabangon, Jaya, True Faith, Myrus, Arnee Hidalgo and Callalily, among others.

“Both the ‘Tunog Natin’ concert series and compilation album are major contributions to Filipino music. They benefit the audiences who get exposed to quality Filipino music and they help Filipino music artists as well, who get the opportunity to reach their listeners. “We are very thankful to Avida for supporting us,” says multi-awarded singer-composer Myrus.

These sentiments were echoed by Jaq, vocalist of the band Kiss Jane, who is part of the “Tunog Natin” album. “All artists, especially newcomers, need the right opportunities to bring their music to Filipino listeners. Our band joined the ‘Tunog Natin’ concert and the compilation album because we believe in the same advocacy as Avida. We thank Avida for this opportunity,” she said.

OPM unites Filipinos
OPM likewise brings people together, according to Tatco. Music, as they say, is a common language that breaks through physical barriers and dissolves differences.

“A simple song can help in nation building. When we develop a commonality, we are able to communicate with other people despite our differences. In a way, OPM becomes our common language—something that binds us together,” she says.

Calling for support
Avida takes the lead in preserving our Filipino musical heritage through its advocacy; now it encourages Filipinos to renew their appreciation for homegrown artists and locally-produced records.

“We urge every Pinoy to help bring new life to our local music and save the heritage and legacy of Filipino musicians. It’s time we all rediscover and promote OPM,” Tatco concludes.

AVIDA MARKETING HEAD TESS TATCO, explains to artists and members of the press that Avida is an advocate of OPM as its way to nourish and strengthen Filipino culture.

Catch the Tunog Natin: Songs From Home Mall Tour in the following dates and venues: Greenbelt 3 Park, February 10; Trinoma Activity Center, February 11; and Bonifacio High Street, February 14 as part of Avida’s Red Letter Day: Biggest Shoutout of Thanks series of events.

It’s a colorful life with Casa Quick & Easy Cellophane!

YOUR hair is your crowning glory but keeping it healthy and in style could be very expensive and time-consuming. If your schedule or budget doesn’t allow you the pampering of salon color, you may want to try at-home hair-coloring preparations that are really affordable and easy to use.

Casa Cellophane is hair-coloring product that gives hair a fantastic shine and adds a layer of color to your otherwise boring locks. It could be the solution to your mane problem if you want to try something exciting and stylish for your locks without having to go to a salon.

Recently, Casa Cellophane appointed the four charming and stylish young men of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) pop group 1:43 (pronounced as “one forty-three”) namely Anjo Resurreccion, Gold Aquino, Kim Nicolas, and Yuki Sakamoto as its endorsers to represent brand’s playful and colorful character.

“I’ve been using Casa Cellophane for a while now and I’ve tried dying my hair red. The red hint of color is just perfect for my skin tone. It’s great that I can style my hair on my own with this product,” says Kim.

Meanwhile, Anjo shares his satisfaction in using Casa Cellophane as it has helped him treat his damaged hair due to frequent hair coloring.

“In our profession we need to reinvent our hairstyles to look our best and be fashionable but sometimes too much styling damages my hair. Good thing, I’ve discovered Casa Cellophane. My hair is now shiny, healthy and manageable,” he says.

Easy-to-use hair product
Casa Cellophane is an easy-to-use hair-coloring product that can be used right at the comfort of your home. By just following the instructions written on the box, you can treat you hair with no fuss. It would only take about 45 minutes to change the color your hair.

Casa Cellophane is the ideal hair coloring product for people who want to save time and money when styling their hair. It’s pretty easy to use you don’t have to worry about ruining your hair.

“What I like about Casa Cellophane most is it provides temporary color to our hair so we can change our hair color whenever we need too,” says Yuki.

“I can go light brown this week, red next week, and medium brown the week after. It’s about time you put a little color in your life,” he adds.

Ammonia, peroxide-free
Another great thing about Casa Cellophane is it’s ammonia and peroxide-free so it’s safer to use than most salon treatments. It’s a gentler alternative to modern day hair coloring methods thus it helps in treating the hair to make it healthy and shiny.

With Casa Cellophane, you can add color, condition, and body to your hair. It also helps in treating dull, damaged hair because it doesn’t contain ammonia and peroxide that could be harmful to the hair and scalp.

Say bye-bye to your colorist and your big, fat salon bills. Casa Cellophane is an affordable and exciting way to style your hair anytime you want.

Casa Cellophane is available at Watsons outlets and SM Department Stores nationwide.

The Cranberries are back in Manila for “Greatest Hits” concert!

THE CRANBERRIES ARE BACK in Manila for their much-awaited “The Greatest Hits Concert” on April 10th at the Araneta Coliseum. The Irish rock band, one of the world’s biggest rock acts in the 1990s, first staged a concert in the Philippines in 1996. They attained a worldwide fan base after releasing their hit songs, which are now rock and roll classics: “Linger”, “Zombie”, “Ode To My Family”, “Animal Instinct”, “Ridiculous Thoughts”, and a lot more.

Stephanie Uy, President of Karpos Multimedia Inc., the producer of the said concert, shares that they are very excited to bring The Cranberries here in the Philippines.

“The Cranberries are going to tour starting March until July, and we’re very lucky because Philippines is the only country that they’ll visit in Asia. We can’t wait to have them here,” she says.

“So if you love rock and you miss the music of the 90’s, this is an event you shouldn’t pass up,” Uy adds.

Pinoy band Franco will showcase their own brand of rock and roll as the front act for  The Cranberries.

Best-selling band

The group—composed of vocalist Dolores O'Riordan, guitarists Noel Hogan and Mike Hogan, as well as drummer Fergal Lawler—was one of the biggest rock bands in the 1990s. Aside from selling more than 15 million albums worldwide, the band has likewise produced four records that were included in the Billboard 200 chart. These are “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?”, “No Need to Argue”, “To the Faithful Departed”, and “Bury the Hatchet’.

The Cranberries started touring in Ireland and the UK in 1992; They had their North American and European Tour a few years later. They included Manila on their "To the Faithful Departed" tour in 1996. The success of their concerts paved way to a world tour in 1999.

In early 2000, however, the group went on a hiatus and its members concentrated on their own solo projects. O'Riordan launched a couple of solo albums titled “Are You Listening?” (2007) and “No Baggage” (2009), while the rest of The Cranberries became active in their other bands and music projects.

Reunion and new album
The Cranberries reunited for a successful North American and European tour in 2009. They also recorded their sixth album, “Roses”, which will be officially released worldwide on February 27th.

In an interview with Billboard.com, O'Riordan shared that making the newest record was a great experience for every member of the band.

“It really came together really nicely. A lot of the tracks were written without really thinking about it. They just came. I suppose we had more respect for each other and what we were doing.”

The track list for “Roses” includes: "Conduct", "Tomorrow", "Fire & Soul", "Raining In My Heart", "Losing My Mind", "Schizophrenic Playboys", "Waiting In Walthamstow", "Show Me", "Astral Projections", "So Good", and "Roses".

You can get updates as well as pre-order the album by visiting www.cranberries.com.

AXA Philippines and the Filipinos’ evolving life insurance needs

LIFE inevitably brings unexpected events and challenges our way. Whether it’s an accident, an illness, the loss of a loved one, an economic recession or retirement, being prepared for life’s twists and turns is essential. Change cannot be avoided. This is why AXA Philippines has a wide range of products and services that help customers respond to their ever-changing needs.

AXA Philippines is a synergy between one of the country’s biggest and strongest financial institutions, Metrobank, and AXA, the world’s number one global insurance brand (based on the 2011 Interbrand Report). As one of the largest and fastest growing life insurance companies in the country today, AXA Philippines has taken proactive steps by redefining its insurance offerings.

AXA Philippines gives its customers peace of mind in knowing they’re protecting their family's financial future.

“We study the trends in the evolving insurance needs of Filipinos and we are proactive in servicing them. We are focused on  specific customer segments, assessing their needs and goals, and giving them flexibility and control over their insurance plans. By doing this, we help them find the best solutions that fit their life stage and personal preferences. We are always here to give them what they need,” says AXA Philippines President & CEO Rien Hermans.

Insurance for Start-ups
To address the needs of the growing market of young professionals and startup families, AXA Philippines has created easy and affordable insurance plans and services. These insurance products include Savings eXentials and Life eXentials, which are especially made for income and savings protection.

AXA Philippines offers educational plans so parents never have to worry about their kids’ education and future. Many people turn to AXA Philippines in meeting their changing life insurance needs.

With AXA Philippines’ affordable, straightforward plans, customers can have peace of mind knowing they’re protecting their family's financial future.

“There is an increasing number of young professionals and families starting up that are interested in not just savings but also in investments as well.  AXA is the ideal insurance partner for this younger segment because we have easy and convenient process of application, payment, and claims,” Hermans explains.

Personalized financial solutions
Due to the evolving insurance needs and preferences of customers, AXA Philippines offers personalized financial solutions. This strategy has been one of the company’s greatest strengths through the years.

AXA Philippines secures and empowers families by giving them flexibility and control over their evolving financial situation and insurance needs.

AXA Philippines doesn’t just offer generic, off-the-shelf products. The company’s expert financial advisors and financial executives in Metrobank branches use a proprietary electronic FNA (Financial Needs Analysis) tool to match solutions to customers’ requirements.

The eFNA or AXA Life Score is a computer program that helps AXA’s financial advisors analyze and assess a client’s needs and goals. After this assessment, they will prepare a set of products that best suits the client’s requirements. This way, clients are assured that their financial needs are met.

AXA Philippines is also the leader in investment-linked life insurance in the country, with products such as Life BasiX, aXelerator, and 3G-Xceed. These life insurance plans combine investment and protection, giving policyholders the flexibility to choose their own level of protection and the types of investment and funds they want to earn potential upside.

And to help clients enhance their financial protection and get more benefits, AXA Philippines also offers supplements and riders that can be added to their insurance package.

Insurance as investment
In addition to its traditional insurance packages, AXA Philippines has also expanded its product catalog by wealth management solutions.

AXA Philippines helps policyholders manage their wealth so they can protect their loved ones and resources.

“Through the years we have gained the expertise and resources to provide assistance and advice for our high net worth policyholders and those who want to invest in bonds and equities. We’re here to provide them solutions for purposes of accumulating and protecting their assets,” says Hermans.

AXA’s Ambition X is for long-term growth through variable returns from professionally managed funds, while Assure gives life insurance coverage up to age 100 with guaranteed cash values.

3G-Xceed provides customers with guaranteed capital, returns, and life insurance coverage. It has an exclusive offering called aXcess, which gives policyholders the opportunity to invest in the unique Icon Funds—the Spanish- American Legacy Fund and Chinese Tycoon Fund.

Business solutions plans
AXA Philippines’ also offers business solutions plans for companies that want to reward their employees and at the same time grow their assets. These products include Group Variable Life (GVL); Group Yearly Renewable Term (GYRT); Group Personal Accident Plan; Security Assurance For Employee Plan (SAFE), and Group Credit Life.

Young professionals now have convenient access to insurance with AXA Philippines’ easy and affordable offerings.

“Our business solutions are for customers who acknowledge insurance not as an expense but an investment. They recognize that their people are their best assets so they give them the added benefit of coverage from AXA Philippines,” Hermans says.
